This widget will show your public Picasa Webalbums in your sidebar, and links to Picasa itself.
Go to the Widgets and Downloads Page to install this widget to your Blog.
In the widget installer, you have to enter the URL of your Picasa Web Albums. So if your Picasa Web Album is stored at http://picasaweb.google.com/yourname, that is what you have to enter in the installer's inputfield.
In the skin of your template, you can add CSS-styling for a new class, bbpicasabox.
An example of the styling definitions is given below:
.bbpicasabox {
border: solid 1px #000000;
padding: 5px;
background: #efefef;
margin-bottom:5px;
width: 180px;
text-align:center;
}
.bbpicasabox a:link, .bbpicasabox a:visited {
text-decoration:none;
}
.bbpicasabox a:hover {
text-decoration:underline;
}
.bbpicasabox img {
border-style:none;
}

Great idea Hans. Could I suggest also the possibility of making a version which shows a random image from the Album?
Also maybe the ability to allow multiple albums to be used to grab the "random" image.
Great widget anyway.
Hans, great widget. For those of us who have little knowledge of CSS, I would appreciate a little more information about the CSS tags yu mention in your post and where I would put it in the template. Thanks again.
Hi!
Hans, what's the difference between your picasa widget and the "embed" album in blogger" option in Picasa Web Albums? your version needs a javascript file, the Picasa Web Albums "embed" option doesnt need it and does the same thing(showing a thumbnail that upon clicking redirects the user to the album).
maybe im missing something here :)
@ricardo: it is more my own curiousity that lets me develop hacks and widgets. And this one came from the curiousity to see if Picasa also uses JSON-feeds. And yes it does. One advantage I can think of, is that the widget uses the feed, and therefore automatically updates new albums, without having to embed them into your blog. And what I really have in mind, is to mash Picasa Geotag information with Google Maps in your blog. And there is no embedding that into a Blog.
Hi where do I put the CSS code?
Put your CSS in the skin of your blog template
Hi!
Widget doesn't work in my blog. I am newbie and I think I installed it incorrectly.
Please, show the right place (tag or smth) in HTML template where classes need to be paste.
The best way is write all procedure of installation :)
Thanks a lot.
hey hans
this is great! thanks, but is there anyway to set the widget to display a set number of albums, and/or the most recent album only?
tried messing with the code, but it looks like the json feed has all that data in it already.
It didn't show anything after installing on my blog, just the title. I tried it on two of my blogs. This is the second out 2 widgets of yours that haven't worked for me. The other one caused my blog to have an error pop up when viewed in IE and then it wouldn't load. Google Books is the other one. I've tried leaving comments...they don't get answered. Thanks anyway.
@Tessa: The Picasa Widget suffered from a broken link (due to my ISP, who changed pathnames as the result of a merger).
It is repaired now. Delete the widget from your blog, and re-install it from my downloadspage.
Thanks- how long ago did you fix this because I left my comment right after trying it- and it didn't work. This was just the other day. Thanks for responding, I know you must be crazy busy.
@Tessa:
I happened to read your comment just after you posted it and I have repaired the deadlink immediately. So check it out now, it should work.
Thanks Hans, I'll try it again.
Tessa
It's a no go, Hans- thanks anyway!
@Tessa: I just tested it on my testblog and it works fine. It installs and displays the picasa album.
What problem do you have during installation and afterwards?
Only the widget title appears- and the sidebar that it is in loads first with main wrapper and other sidebar loading last, and very slow. Thanks anyway :)
Self installer works great. When I click on the album from Blogger, the album opens, but I get an error code "Stack Overflow at line:0" I can click the OK button several time and eventually (several clicks, later) the error code disappears and all is OK. Whazzup...?
